1: Get Started with Online Application Assistance

Application assistance services can simplify the process for many DDS related services for a fee, including: renewing your license, applying for a license, registering a vehicle, replacing your license, changing your address and more. In addition to assistance in preparing official forms, the value added services and products you will receive include a comprehensive Easy Guide™ containing information relevant to your service needs; 30 days of both emergency Roadside Assistance and the Repair Assist consultation service from Road America. Other benefits include an ongoing monthly newsletter and a quarterly magazine covering important updates that affect drivers, important safety tips, trends, legislative updates and ways to save money on vehicle-related services.

2: By mail

Some drivers prefer to handle the renewal process by mail, rather than taking advantage of assistance services, visiting the DDS in person, or via available online services. Service by mail is available with limitations. Read below for additional details or visit your local DDS.

3: Via a DDS office

If your specific needs require an in-person visit, most, if not all, driver license services can be handled at your local DDS office. Varying DDS offices sometimes supply different types of services so you will need to check before your visit to make sure the DDS closest to you provides the service you require. In addition, you can call to see if your DDS allows you to make a personal appointment.

Applying for a Georgia change of address is fairly simple, but there are some considerations to keep in mind.

Time Requirements
The DDS requires that motorists file a Georgia change of address form within 60 days after they move.  The DDS will provide drivers with a replacement license (at no charge) as long as the Georgia drivers license is not due to expire within 150 days from the date of notification. Otherwise, the change of address is considered to be a renewal and standard fees apply.

The first time a Georgia change of address is requested from the DDS, there is no cost to make the change.  However, fees apply with any second change of address requested anytime during the five- or eight-year license term periods. If a change of address request is made within 150 days of expiration, it is considered to be a license renewal and the following fees will apply:

  • $20 for a five-year license renewal
  • $32 for an eight-year license renewal

Changing an Address Online
Georgia drivers license change of address applicants applying online will find it is an efficient and easy way to process a Georgia change of address request.  Please note that only U.S. citizens can register for a change of address online.

Make sure that the Georgia change of address has also been registered with the United States Post Office before applying online with the Department of Driver Services.  The DDS must verify and any address change with the one that is registered with the post office.  It takes two to three weeks for the DDS to complete the address verification process.

If a request is denied, motorists must visit a local Customer Service Center in person.

In Person
To register a Georgia Drivers License change of address form in person, visit any nearby Customer Service Center. Motorists will receive a free replacement license for a Georgia change of address that will be valid only for duration of time remaining on the present license before renewal.

It is mandatory that non-U.S. citizens register change of address updates in person at the DDS. Motorists with certain vision restrictions must also apply in person for a Georgia change of address.
